DAY 97 (Monday 24 October 2011)

Well, today is my first duty that I have had to do since I arrived here and it looks like my duties only come around every 3 to 4 months depending on personnel availability, so I am well happy with that.

Work will be quiet this week as we have got TIHAR and that means there will be no one in the office from Wednesday onwards, let’s just hope that I have a quiet duty as TIHAR is actually a time where the Gurkhas here are allowed to officially gamble. TIHAR actually means festival of lights, and you can certainly see that because everywhere down town is getting donned with lights. I can’t wait for the second day of the TIHAR, this is known as KUKUR PUJA otherwise known as ‘worship of the dogs’, this is a day that even the street dogs will get offered really delicious food and place garlands round the necks of the dog and also place a red TIKA on the forehead, I hope to get out and get some pictures so that I can show you.

Not much else to say so, hopefully a quiet night tonight for my duty.
